So you think that because you aren't working underneath construction that you don't have to wear your hard hat. Well that's simply not true. There are many things that can happen that could hurt you severely if you aren't wearing a hard hat. One example comes from the MSA trade magazine. A safety director for a corporation in New Jersey shared that he often gets asked by employees why they should have to wear hard hats when there is only sky overhead. An incident on their job site clarified why. One of the employees was bending to pick something up when a forklift ran over a piece of wood packing material. This object shot from under the tire and hurtled toward this employee's head. The force of the blow caused a crater in the side of his MSA V-Guard hard hat but the employee was not hurt. Just because you can't see the danger, doesn't mean it's not there. Always wear your protective gear.
